Power Transformer Design Engineer (Up to 345kV / 200 MVA)

A growing power engineering services organization is hiring a Transformer Design Engineer to support complex remanufacturing, upgrade, and life-extension projects for large liquid-filled power transformers across North America.

This is a hands-on, high-impact engineering role — not production-only design.

What you’ll be doing

  • Active-part & coil design / reverse engineering

  • Transformers up to 200 MVA, 345 kV

  • Substation, mobile, arc furnace, phase-shifting, rectifier & specialty units

  • Performance and reliability upgrades for legacy fleets

Key Responsibilities

  • Thermal, electrical, mechanical & short-circuit calculations

  • Engineering drawings, documentation & BOMs

  • Failure analysis and root cause investigations

  • Cross-functional work with manufacturing, testing & field teams

  • Technical input for customers and proposals

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years transformer coil / active-part design experience
  • BSEE (MSEE a plus)
  • Experience with short-circuit modeling & transformer design software
  • Knowledge of insulation systems, losses, inrush, mechanical forces
  • CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)

Location & Travel

  • Engineering hub in the Mountain West U.S.
  • Relocation encouraged long-term
  • Travel typically 10–15% (higher possible if remote)

What's in it for you?

✔ Complex, non-routine transformer engineering
✔ Technical ownership across full project lifecycle
✔ Critical grid & industrial infrastructure projects
✔ Path toward technical leadership / SME roles

Ideal for engineers who enjoy solving tough transformer problems, not repeating standard OEM designs.
